PTDF Picks 5000 Nigerians for Scholarships Abroad
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has announced that it has selected over 5,000 applicants across Nigeria for scholarship awards for the 2023/2024 academic term overseas program.
This exciting news was shared by Mrs Bolanle Kehinde-Agboola, the head of the Overseas Scholarship Scheme at PTDF, on a Monday during an interview event for the chosen candidates for MSc and PhD postgraduate programs.
The Selection Interview
The interview, as per Mrs Kehinde-Agboola, was a continuation of the application process that began on February 13, 2023.
This process was publicized through some national newspapers, which invited qualified Nigerians to submit their applications.
The interview was part of the scholarship award process for the 2023/2024 academic year.
Over 5,000 applicants were selected to participate in this exercise, which was held in all six geo-political zones of the country.
Criteria for Selection
The first and foremost requirement for selection was that the applicant must be a Nigerian.
For the master’s program, the applicant had to be a student in any of the oil and gas related fields such as engineering, geology, computer sciences, environmental sciences, and management.
An important qualification requirement was that the applicant must have a minimum of a second-class upper in any of these fields.
Application Process
Mrs Kehinde-Agboola explained that the agency usually opens the application window at the end of each year for candidates to apply.
The PTDF, she stated, is a body tasked with the capability to reinforce and develop the oil and gas sector.
The purpose of the scholarship program was to educate those who would bring new ideas into the sector.
Aim of the Program
The main goal of this scholarship scheme was to provide the applicants with the essential skills required to perform effectively in the oil and gas industry.
The chosen candidates are sent abroad to study and acquire the relevant skills.
The scholarship scheme is available in the United Kingdom, and there are also strategic partnerships in France, Germany, Malaysia, and China.
The scholarship interview process will take place nationwide for one week.
The number of successful applicants is dependent on the budget for this year.
